چکیده

The massive introduction of technical advances in the Transport Network (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing, optical Crossconnects and Add Drop multiplexers), forced by bandwidth demand growth, creates new needs to manage it in an efficient and integrated way via a Common Control and Management Plane..The Generalized Multiprotocol Label Switching has been for several years the subject of IETF activity for definition of a Common Control and Management Plane. Multiprotocol Label Switching and existing Signalling and Routing Protocols are extended to achieve it. This article provides and overview of Transport Network evolution, describes the main functionality of GMPLS protocols and the extensions to existing protocols in Routing and Signallingo and reviews the current status and outstanding issues to be solved prior to a wide deployment. A view on the related activities on Optical Transport networks by telecommunication standards organizations is given to complete the picture.

Network Working Group Framework for Generalized Multi-protocol Label Switching (gmpls)-based Control of Synchronous Digital Hierarchy/synchronous Optical Networking (sdh/sonet) Networks

Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching (GMPLS) is a suite of protocol extensions to MPLS to make it generally applicable, to include, for example, control of non packet-based switching, and particularly, optical switching. One consideration is to use GMPLS protocols to upgrade the control plane of optical transport networks. This document illustrates this process by describing those extensi...

GMPLS-Based Control Plane for Optical Networks: Early Implementation Experience

Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching (GMPLS) extends MPLS signaling and Internet routing protocols to provide a scalable, interoperable, distributed control plane, which is applicable to multiple network technologies such as optical cross connects (OXCs), photonic switches, IP routers, ATM switches, SONET and DWDM systems. It is intended to facilitate automatic service provisioning and dy...

RSVP-TE Signaling Extension for LSP Handover from the Management Plane to the Control Plane in a GMPLS-Enabled Transport Network

In a transport network scenario, Data Plane connections controlled by either a Generalized Multiprotocol Label Switching (GMPLS) Control Plane (Soft Permanent Connections SPC) or a Management System (Permanent Connections PC) may independently coexist. The ability of transforming an existing PC into an SPC and vice versa -without actually affecting Data Plane traffic being carried over it -is a...
